SEPTA is continuing to expand the implementation of SEPTA Key and announced that they are launching their Regional Rail “Early Adopters” program in August. Riders who travel from one of the 19 selected Zone 4 stations on the Paoli/Thorndale, Lansdale/Doylestown, Trenton and West Trenton lines will be able to assist SEPTA by testing the new fares. A complete list of the eligible stations can be viewed here. Riders may purchase their Zone 4 TrailPass from their local station, one of the five Center City sales outlets or the SEPTA Key Mobile Fare Kiosk. During this testing phase, Zone 4 TrailPasses will not be available at Fare Kiosks. For more details on SEPTA’s Regional Rail Early Adopters program, please visit SEPTA’s website.
Upcoming important dates associated with the implementation of SEPTA Key:
• July 31st (end of service day): SEPTA will discontinue the sale of paper transfers. Additional information: http://www.septa.org/key/updates/2018-05-paper-transfers.html
• August (date TBD): PATCO begins testing of FREEDOM SHARE Card (see article below)
• September 1: SEPTA will no longer accept PA-issued Senior Citizen Transit Card. More information: http://www.septa.org/key/updates/2018-05-senior-citizen-id-cards.html
• October 1: PA-issued Reduced Transit Fare ID Cards will not be valid for travel. Details here: http://www.septa.org/key/updates/2018-06-reduced-fare-id.html
The most common question we’ve been receiving is, when will RideECO be able to electronically load Key Cards? RideECO staff has been communicating regularly with SEPTA and they are not yet prepared to test the loading of Key Cards with RideECO benefits. When they are, we expect to mimic the same process that we currently utilize for loading PATCO FREEDOM Cards. Until SEPTA is ready to test this process, please continue to order vouchers for staff. Or, consider changing to RideECO Select for our prepaid commuter benefit card.
The RideECO card offers the greatest flexibility for your employees and can be redeemed at any SEPTA Key kiosk, online at www.SEPTAKey.org or in person at Key Sales outlets that accept credit cards. Want to learn more about the RideECO prepaid card? Email RideECO here.
We will share updates on Key with our clients as they become available. And, don’t worry if you are left with a supply of vouchers once SEPTA Key moves toward 100% implementation – RideECO will accept those unused vouchers back as a face-value credit on your company’s account.
PATCO is offering a new product to their riders who regularly connect with SEPTA—the FREEDOM SHARE Card. This new card, coming in August, will replace the need for paper transfers when transferring from PATCO to SEPTA services. The FREEDOM SHARE Card is much like the existing FREEDOM Card and offers the same balance protection and access to the PATCO system. The new SHARE Card will allow for seamless transfers between the two transit agencies.
If you have employees who have a FREEDOM Card and connect regularly with SEPTA, they will want to obtain this new FREEDOM SHARE Card. In order for RideECO to load the FREEDOM SHARE Card, employees will need to update administrators with their new card number. RideECO Select participants can update their FREEDOM Card number via their account on www.RideECOSelect.com.
