Bicycle Commuting Benefit Information
The Bicycle Commuter Benefit was eliminated as part of the 2017 Tax Reform legislation.
Employers wishing to provide a bicycle benefit will now incur a taxable event for both the company and the employee. Guidance related to offering a bicycle benefit will be available in the 2018 release of IRS Publication 15-B.
How it Currently Works:
A qualified bicycle commuting benefit, allows employers to provide a voucher of a maximum of $20 per month for reasonable expenses incurred by employees’ commutes to work by bike. The $20 must be an employer-paid subsidy, but is now perceived as income under the tax code. Unlike the other qualified transportation fringe benefits, it is important to note about the bicycle benefit:

How Do Employers Offer/Order the Benefit?
The bicycle vouchers are available to order online at www.RideECO.org. Please log in to your account and add Commuter Checks for Bicycling to your shopping cart. Bicycle vouchers are available in $10 and $20 denominations.
RideECO Select companies may choose to offer the Bicycle Benefit as part of their product options.

- The purchase of a commuter bicycle
- Bike lock
- Helmet
- Bike parking facilities
- General maintenance
