Earlier this week, SEPTA General Manager Jeff Knueppel held a press conference to update riders on the timeline for the Silverliner V cars to return to service. GM Knueppel announced that approximately 10 Silverliner V rail cars will return to the fleet starting the week of August 21st and will continue add 10 cars per week through November 6th, when all 120 Silverliner V cars are expected to be back in service.
The Silverliner V rail cars represent approximately one-third of SEPTA's Regional Rail fleet. Silverliner V manufacturer Hyundai Rotem, working with SEPTA, will replace all equalizer beams on the rail cars. Fatigue and related tests will be completed before vehicles are cleared for service.
September is expected to be a transitional month, with schools reopening and more commuters returning to work after vacations. To address this increase in commuters, new interim weekday schedules will be released by SEPTA after Labor Day. In addition, SEPTA will soon announce plans to add express bus service along some routes.
Riders are encouraged to regularly check SEPTA’s Contingency Page for updates. In addition, RideECO continues to follow the topic closely and will share updated information via our Facebook and Twitter feeds.
DVRPC offers several programs for commuters who work in southeastern Pennsylvania, and for their employers. Commuters can go to PA Carpool for information on commuting around the Philadelphia region, as well as programs in other parts of Pennsylvania and our surrounding states.
